Mayo North Welcome Home Gathering will be a series of events held throughout the North Mayo region in the first week of August as the flagship Gathering event in Ballin and Mayo during 2013.
From 1st August - 9th August 2013
Mayo North Welcome Home Gathering will host a series of events in the first week of August as our flagship Gathering Celebration for 2013.
Ballina, Co Mayo will act as the main hub and surrounding towns of Bonniconlon, Killala, Crossmolina, Swinford and Foxford as well as villages of Attymass, Knockmore and Ardagh will all be hosting local events. Highlighting the importance of agriculture, fishing and exhibiting the strong sporting traditions, music and arts associated with Mayo North, the Gathering opening night celebrates with a Seisun in The Father Peyton Centre in Attymass on the 1st August 2013. Bank holiday Monday hosts The annual Bonniconlon Agricultural Show & Gymkhana (5th Aug) and this promises a real traditional Irish family day out, a must for all the family.
One of Ireland's longest running street festivals, Siamsa Sraide Swinford hosts a day of celebrations on Tuesday 6th August.Other events include heritage walks & trails throughout the nine days and a special Gathering exhibition in the Jackie Clarke Collection Museum, Ballina, Co Mayo.
Sporting events include an inter-community league for local and visiting sporting teams; music workshops in Ballina Arts Centre and various school reunions! North Mayo Gathering hopes to strengthen links with returning emigrants from Manchester and Leeds where local people traditionally emigrated. Welcoming North Mayo's twinned cities of Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA, Craigavon, Co Armagh and Athis Mons, France.
